We are seeking a Labor Relations Specialist

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Partner on employee relations responsibilities as needed.
  • Provide guidance in labor-management relations, including advising management on labor-management issues, guided by labor and employment law, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and Sandia National Laboratories policies.
  • Advise management on discipline, termination, hiring, and transfers of employees.
  • Address labor union and employee concerns about potential violations of laws, applicable collective bargaining agreement, or policy.
  • Process concerns through the appropriate grievance and arbitration process to resolution.

Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Resources or other closely related field.

Desired:

  • Masterss degree in Human Resources Management.
  • 2 years of direct Employee/Labor Relations experience.
  • Certification(s) in human resources.
  • Active DOE/DOE security clearance.
  • Experience at negotiation table.
  • Experience managing grievances and arbitrations.
  • Experience writing proposals.
  • Experience working with DOE.
  • Experience with the NLRB.
  • Familiarity with labor laws.

Department Description:

The Employee and Labor Relations (ELR) Department represents Sandia in all matters related to negotiating and administering the collective bargaining agreements with the three bargaining units (MTC, OPEIU, SPA) representing employees performing work at Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico, and serves as a corporate resource in the analysis, development, and administration of employee relations policies (discipline, dispute resolution, actions plans for improved performance, loss of security clearances, etc.) in conformance with employment law, DOE regulations, Lockheed Martin policies, and Sandia policies, processes and procedures. The Department reports to the Director of Human Resources and is specifically responsible in Labor Relations for negotiating contracts; responding to formal grievances; representing the Laboratories in proceedings including arbitrations, National Labor Relations Board responses, and in litigation; and in providing labor relations training for supervisors. Employee Relations responsibilities include support of the Corporate Review Committee and consultation with management to ensure administration of firm, fair, and consistent discipline; and require partnership and collaboration with subject matter experts in core HR functions and with HR Business Partners across the Laboratories.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted L-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
