Sandia National Laboratories Communications Technologist (Experienced) in Albuquerque, New Mexico
Installs, modifies, tests, and services internal and in-house data communications network equipment and related systems, audiovisual systems, and video production systems. Assists in recommending improvements and developing technical standards.
Primary Job Duties
Supports the installation of local and remote data and voice communications equipment, such as terminals, modems, videoconferencing units, concentrators, minicomputers, facsimiles, and pagers. Ensures that all hardware and software, including network control programs, satisfies communications needs. Prepares appropriate network documentation, including operational instructions. Liaises with outside vendors and orders circuits and equipment, as required. May develop recommendations for the combined usage of data processing and telephone system hardware and software.
Monitor, troubleshoot and set up unclassified and classified bridge calls and resolve issues as they arise.
Monitor and troubleshoot customer videoconference meetings.
Provide before and after working hour videoconference support.
Assist users on using videoconferencing systems before and during event.
Communicate with other bridge operations centers for multipoint calls outside of Sandia.
Use the Sandia Ticketing System to open, track and resolve assigned setup and trouble tickets.
Train customers on use of videoconference equipment.
Test assigned videoconferencing rooms on reoccurring schedule and report results.
Troubleshoot and provide maintenance and support to diagnose and isolate problem to a specific system,
piece of equipment or component and then make necessary arrangements for resolution.
Maintain, test and ensure videoconference rooms meet security plans.
Lead videoconference related projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of specific modems, test equipment, and terminal configurations. May have experience working with broadcast quality projection, presentation, and video production equipment, including multichannel audio mixers, audio equalizers, multimedia and multiscreen presentations, and various video recording and playback formats. Interacts with customers for in-house communication events. Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software and coordinates and performs installation. May require technical expertise in troubleshooting, installing, and integrating video and audio for live production, post-production, and projection systems. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with team members and independently with minimal supervision.
Requires high school diploma plus three or more years of directly related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with IT customer service.
Experience troubleshooting technical issues.
Ability to obtain DOE Q security clearance.
DOE Q Clearance
Technical understanding of videoconferencing components.
Experience in videoconference system support with emphasis on multipoint bridge services for audio and videoconferencing in a multi-vendor environment.
Technical experience troubleshooting, installing and integrating video and audio for videoconferencing.
Experience with LAN/WAN technologies.
Strong customer service background.
Ability to operate under high pressure situations while resolving real-time problems.
