About the opportunity
SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Biological Writer to join their Albuquerque, NM team. Your role will be to lead biological reporting and execution and to produce and deliver high-quality compliance documents. Your work schedule will be flexible and responsive to changing project needs. Your work will primarily be office-based, but fieldwork and travel will occasionally be required
What you will accomplish
As a core member of the Natural Resources Program, you will play a key role in bringing projects to a successful conclusion.
Contribute to expanding SWCA’s professional reputation in natural resource consulting and research
In a collaborative environment, you will prepare and deliver technical documents including Biological Survey Reports, Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, Biological Evaluations and Assessments, and related products.
You will take initiative in planning and executing on project requirements.
You will assist, supervise and/or prepare requirements related to biological field studies, permits, mitigation plans, biological assessments, project monitoring, and other deliverables.
You may occasionally perform biological or other resource field studies as part of a project team, using topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and tools to determine exact locations of project areas, habitat types, and associated landforms.
Experience and qualifications for success
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in biology, botany, environmental science, natural resource management, or other related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
Demonstrated ability to play a leadership role in a team-based work environment.
Excellent communication skills.
Working knowledge of federal, state and/or local regulations (i.e., National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act) governing natural resource management in the Arid Southwest.
Strong technical writing background required, experience including established credibility with federal and state reviewing agencies and clients, as well as success in business development and proposal writing is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience in increasing levels of responsibility, including supervising and providing leadership for other professionals preferred.
Highly organized, self-starter, and a strong entrepreneurial initiative
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
